| | The first NAPA MUSTANG DAY was held May 19, 2007, at the Napa Valley Horsemen's Association, Napa, CA. |

| It was a great event! It was a simple idea: Turn the public on to Mustangs and Burros through a one-day event that educates while it entertains. The components: - BLM "Mini" Adoption (in this case, 27 animals total; A "regular" adoption is usually 80 animals, so a smaller one is called a "mini" adoption)
- Entertainment:
- Live Music
- "Wild Horse Annie Story Time" with games and prizes for kids
- "Get Your Picture Taken on a Mustang" with free take-home souvenir photo in cardboard frame
- Arena Show:
- Parade of Ambassador Horses & Burros
- Arena "Acts" or Demos to showcase the trainability and versatility of mustangs and burros
- Volunteers and Ambassador Animals interacting with the Public
- Participation: Trail/Obstacle Course available all day for ambassadors to enjoy
- Gentling and Training Demos by experienced volunteers

PUBLICITY: Of course, having a good idea is one thing: Getting people there is another. We posted flyers, had the event listed on the "Calendar" section of all the local and semi-local newspapers, sent Public Service Announcements to local media, and sent notices out through various online chatboards and email newsletters. The County Supervisor for our district, Brad Wagenknecht, sent out a flyer through his email newsletter. This was all done at no cost beyond printing the flyers. BLM did a magnificent job of getting good publicity through their PR channels. I think they paid plenty. The result of all this was a huge turnout. At one point around Noon, over 450 people were counted, and that was just at one spot in time. | | The Adoption | We invite all of these horses & burros back to the 2009 Mustang Days for a special "Baby, Look at Us Now!" presentation. | | | |
