This website is owned and created by Nancy Kerson, a private citizen - I am not the BLM or any other branch of government!

Information about BLM adoptions is offered as a service, to help mustangs find homes and to promote public appreciation of wild horses and burros.

Please direct adoption questions to the BLM, not to me.

And I sure as heck am not a Mustang car dealership!

I have NO horses or burros for sale and am not interested in buying or listing or otherwise promoting your sale animals!

OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN
WILD HORSE GENTLING:

At Bodega Dunes State Park in early spring

BLM Ambassador horse, Santa Clara adoption, April 2008

The absolute best thing I ever did with Sparky was to study horsemanship with Jerry Tindell for several years.

The next best thing was to take riding lessons with Midori Morgan in the winter and spring of 2008. My horsemanship was way ahead of my ability to ride, so I signed up for riding lessons. My goal was to become a relaxed, less fearful rider - especially on the Fearful Crossing in the fall - as well as on any trail.

In 2008 We took LOTS of trail rides - far more than ever before. Steep trails, windy beach rides, deep sand, rocks, jeep trails with vehicles - learning to be soft and confident and working in, well, not to overuse a cliche, but actually enjoying a true partnership with Sparky. He can trust me and I can trust him.
Sparky and I also continue to develop a Trick Horse act. Here he is entertaining a group of summer school kids who visited Vine Village.
THE FEARFUL CROSSING 2008
Last year, we made it through, but I was a very Fearful Rider on the Fearful Crossing.
This was last year.

Last year: Note the tight rein I'm keeping on Sparky. Poor guy got no release, which only made him nervous, and then I got even more nervous.

This is this year. Sparky and I are both relaxed, having fun, feeling good.

Sparky is really not very herd-bound. Here we went solo over to meet the "cheap jeep" - a group of ghost town explorers in a homemade desert-mobile.
