| | Sparky in 2006In mid-December, 2005, Sparky went to Jerry Tindell for some professional training. I have done the best I can, given that I am a novice. I felt really honored when Jerry Tindell complimented me that I had put a great foundation on Sparky. But I felt that Sparky needed a jump start to reach his potential. So for three months he was with Jerry. I visited a couple of times and took a riding lesson, and I've been so excited about Sparky's progress, although I have missed him terribly. Then on March 15 it was time to bring him home. The occasion was a "Spook" clinic at Terri Riley's in Wilton. While with Jerry, Sparky improved his softness, his head set and frame, his movement and willingness, and he did all sorts of things: roped calves, pulled brush piles, swam in the river, and attended clinics with Jerry on the road. It's nice to have him home again! | | | Sparky's first time ever to wear a blanket! This was at a clinic at Jill Harrison's North Gait Equestrian Center in Walnut Creek. | Sparky at the Jerry Tindell "Spook" Clinic. So what's the big deal about getting a horse to walk through a tire? The tire isn't the issue. The issue is that if you can get a horse to walk through the tire, you will have gained important skills and confidence that will be there for you if you need them in a real life situation. | Sparky found the bubbles moderately interesting but not really troublesome. | | | Backing Sparky through the pattern | The hardest thing was the teeter-totter. Sparky went over it fine the first time, but then he learned that the other end went down suddenly. After that he hated it, so it was quite challenging getting him to go over it calmly again. First we did it in-hand, and then when he had that working well, we did it under saddle, and it was the same thing all over again. But we did finally succeed in doing it. | | | Sparky and Ruby haven't been together for three months. They seemed happy to see one another. | | | | October 2005: Benny, Ruby & Sparky at Pt.
